Wastewater Treatment Plant for Oleochemical Refinery Plant

Product Used in this Project:

Project Description: To design & build a wastewater treatment plant for an Oleochemical Manufacturing Company in Lahad Datu, Sabah

Overall View of the Plant

The process begins with the waste from the oil palm refinery being transferred to the equalization tank. After that, it is transferred into the chemical reaction chamber where chemicals are being dosed to flocculate the sludge before entering the DAF System. Here, bubbles of air is produced to push up the sludge to the surface of the effluent and scrapped off the surface of the effluent.

The sludge is then transferred into a sludge holding tank where it will be then pump to a filter press for de-watering and disposed as solid waste according to the DOE standard waste disposal area. The effluent from the DAF System is then transferred into a buffer tank before moved to an aeration tank. This is to further break up the sludge and transfer the the effluent to the Membrane Bio Reactor Tank (MBR Tank). The MBR will separate the sludge from the clear supernatant. After the sludge has been separated from the clear supernatant, it is then kept in the MBR tank to act as shield for the MBR itself. The supernatant from the MBR will be sucked into the carbon filter for further filtration and clarification before releasing it into the public drain as final discharge.

Anaerobic Digester

For anaerobic waste with high level of COD and BOD, it is treated in a different way compared to those wastewater with lower COD and BOD. The EFB Juice is channeled into a Cooling and Deoiling Tank where it is left to cool down from the refining process. After the EFB Juice has cooled down to the appropriate temperature, it is then transferred into the Acidification Tank where the process of breaking down the long-chain of molecule happens. This will create an acidic fluid where it helps in breaking down the EFB Juice.

After the breaking down molecule process happens, the juice is then transferred to the Anaerobic Digester Tank where biogas will be emitted from the further breakdown of molecular chain and this gas will be used in the boiler or used to generate electricity for their production plant. The sediments which is created from this process will be transferred into the Sediment Tank before pumped into the Buffer Tank. From there, it will join in the effluent downstream for further treatment according to DOE standard before releasing it to the public drain.
